Rajendra Kumar

Today is the death anniversary of Rajendra Kumar, the popular Actor of Hindi cinema who also produced and directed films.Born on 20th July , 1929 at Sialkot in undivided Punjab, he started his career in 1950 and was also seen in Mother India,in which he played Nargis's son along with Sunil Dutt.A sought after hero in the '50s & '60s , he gave one hit after another, some of the films becoming jubilee hits, so much so that he earned the sobriquet Jubilee Kumar'. In popularity he was next perhaps only to the famous trio of Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand.
In a career spanning four decades he acted in about 80 films.
The films in which he acted include Jogan, Vachan, Toofan aur Diya, Mother India,Talaaq,Ghar Sansaar, Santaan,Goonj Uthi Shehnai,Dhool ka Phool, Chiraag Kahan Roshni Kahan,Patang, Kanoon, Dil Ek Mandir,Sasural, Gharana,Dharamputra,Aas ka Panchhi,Mere Mehboob, Hamrahi,Sangam,Arzoo,Suraj , Palki,Ayi Milan Ki Bela and many many others.
He produced Love Story,Naam, Lovers, Jurrat and Phool.
A recipient of Padam Shri in 1969, he was thrice nominated for Filmfare Best Actor Award and once for Best Supporting Award.Many other honours also came his way.
He died this day in 1999, just 8 days short of completing 70 years.
