Today is the death anniversary of Jonas Edward Salk,the American medical researcher and virologist.He discovered and developed the first successful Polio vaccine in 1955 , which has saved the mankind from this dreaded disease the world over.He also established the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla,California.
Little wonder that many awards honours and worldwide recognition came his way and many institutions were named after him.
He died this day in 1995.
