Vijay Merchant

Today is the birth anniversary of Vijay Merchant, a former Indian cricketer. A right arm batsman and also a right arm medium pace bowler, he played only ten Test matches for India. However, he played 150 First Class matches. He is known more for his conservative copy book batting style who did not believe in the flourish of the bat on the field. His test match average is a respectable 47.72. But int is in the Forst class matches that he stole the show with a batting average of 71.64, next only to that of Don Bradman, the all time great of Cricket. His average in Ranji Trophy matches is even higher at 98.75.His name also figures in the Wisden Cricketer of the Year.
Our humble tributes to the great cricketer !
