Today is the birth anniversary of Shivaram Hari Rajguru the Indian Independence activist. Born this day in 1908 at Khed near Pune , Maharashtra in a family that held strong nationalistic and anti British feelings, in his late teens he joined the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army and became an associate of revolutionaries Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev.He was co accused of killing the British police officer J.P.Saunders to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai in a lathi charge ordered by him.He along with Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and others stood trial, was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging.
He along with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev kissed the noose on March 23, 1931 in the 23rd year of his life.Post independence,his birth place was named as Rajgurunagar in his memory and honour.
