Shakeel Badayuni

Today is the 101st birth anniversary of Shakeel Badayuni , the renowned Urdu poet and lyricist who penned immortal songs for films like Baiju Bawra, Mother India and Mughal-e- Azam. His lyrics for the films Dulari, Shabaab, Ganga-Jamuna, Chaudhawin ka Chaand , Gharana, Phool Aur Patthar and Do Badan deserve special mention. Mostly associated with the composer Naushad- and the duo worked wonders together- he also teamed well with Hemant Kumar and Ravi. The lyrics he wrote for Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam became immensely popular.
The non film ghazal- Aye mohabbat Tere Anjaam Pe Rona Aya, beautifully rendered by Beghum Akhtar is an all time classic.
He won the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award for three consecutive years 1961, 1962 & 1963.
A postage Stamp was also released in his honour in 2013.
Our humble tributes to the great poet and lyricist !
