Today is the birth anniversary of Maharaja Chhatrasal, the Bundela warrior. He was born this day in 1649. Inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji, he raised a revolt against the mighty Mughals and took on Aurangzeb's forces with a handful of soldiers.He was only 22 then. He founded the Panna kingdom and ruled the same till his death in 1731.He was a great patron of art and literature.The poet Bhushan was his Court poet who through his adulatory writings, immortalised Chhatrasal.
Chhatrasal was in alliance with the Marathas and had given his daughter Mastani in marriage to Peshwa Bajirao.
The 2015 Bollywood flick Bajirao Mastani is about the couple.
