Today is the death anniversay of Govind Ballabh Pant,one of the foremast leaders during the Indian Independence movement.
He was the second Chief Minister of United Provinces during the pre independence period. Post independence,he served as the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He also served as the Home Minister in Nehru's cabinet.
He died this day in 1961 aged 73.
