Today is the birth anniversary ofField Marshal S.H. F. J. Manekshaw fondly remembered as the Hero of the 1971 war with Pakistan.A
distinguished soldier, he saw action during the
Second World War, 1962 Indo-Chinese War, 1965 Indo-Pakistan War & of course
1971 Indo Pakistan War fought under his command.
A highly decorated soldier, he was awarded Military
Cross, Padma Bhushan & Padma Vibhushan. Also known as Sam Manekshaw and
highly popular with Gurkha troops, he was also nicknamed Sam Bahadur
