Jim Corbett

Today is the death anniversary of Jim Corbett, the hunter turned conservationist. A Colonel, in the British Indian Army, Corbett due to his hunting expertise was called by the United Provinces Government to hunt and kill Tigers, Leopards and man eaters in the Kumaon Hills, who used to prey upon and kill local people . Later he turned a conservationist and wrote and talked about the importance of wildlife protection. His book ‘Man-eaters of Kumaon’ containing exquisite photographs of wildlife taken by him is a masterpiece of sorts. The Corbett National Park in Nainital District of Uttarakhand is named after him .

Our humble tributes !
