Today is the birth anniversary of Omar Sharif- real name Michel Dimitri Chalhoub - the Egyptian actor who appeared in British and American Productions.He is best known for his performances in 'Lawrence of Arabia' , 'Doctor Zhivago' and 'Funny Girl' . Nominated once for the Academy Award, he was a three time winner of Golden Globe Award and a César Award . His estranged wife Faten Ahmed Hamama, who predeceased him by about six months was also a renowned Egyptian actress. A linguist of sorts, he was also a horse racing enthusiast and a bridge player .
