Today is the death anniversary of Nandlal Bose , an eminent Indian painter and an exponent of Bengal School of Art. In 1922, he was made Principal of Kala Bhawan, Santiniketan.He is considered a doyen of Modern Indian Art and his works are deemed rare art treasures.He drew upon Indian mythology, village life and women as the dominant theme of his works.
He was the second Artist to be made a Fellow of the Lalit Kala Academy in 1956.
Earlier he was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 1954.
In 1957, Calcutta University conferred on him an honorary D.Litt.
