Today is the death anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, FRS the largely self-taught Mathematical genius.Interested in the subject from a very young age he had mastered most of the existing theories and while in teens had virtually started independent research. Entering into correspondence with the Cambridge scholar G.H.Hardy, he went to Trinity College London to study and do research. Independently and in collaboration with G.H.Hardy & others, he discovered and propounded many theories, theorems and Equations which bear his name.Dwindling health brought him back to India and courting illness, he died this day in 1920, not yet 33.
Many recognitions and honours came his way after his death and some prizes were instituted in his name.Commemorative Postage Stamp was issued in 1962 on his 75th birth anniversary and a stamp with new design was again issued in 2011.His birthday is also celebrated as the National Mathematics Day.
Our humble tributes to the genius !
