Albert Calmette

Today is the birth anniversary of Albert Calmette, the French physician bacteriologist and immunologist, who discovered the Bacillus Calmette Guerin- BCG for short - the vaccine to prevent tuberculosis. He also discovered the antivenom serum to be used against snake bite.He for many years was associated with the Pasteur Institute in Paris.
I remember the time when as students of Class I or II we were vaccinated in school - first a test dose and then actual vaccination, the pain drawing us to tears.
Our humble tributes to the great saviour of humanity !
