Today is the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player.An army man, he started playing hockey in regimental tournaments and graduated to being a member of the Indian Army team and in 1926,was selected as a member of the Indian Hockey team. Apart from other extraordinary feats in the field, he is mostly remembered for winning India three consecutive Hockey Gold medals in 1928, 1932and 1936 Olympics held in Amsterdam, Los Angeles and Berlin respectively.
His goal scoring skills were legendary and in all he scored 1000 goals in his career. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in the year 1956 and remains the only Hockey player to have been awarded so.
