Born this day in 1873 in Gujranwala of undivided Punjab, he lost his mother while some days' old. He was brought up by his elder brother.A brilliant student, he passed his M.A. in Mathematics and landed a job as Professor in Government College Lahore. A chance meeting with Swami Vivekananda at Lahore in 1897, resulted in his inclination towards Vedanta .
H
e quit his job, left his family and became a Sannyasi in 1899.On a travel sponsored by the Maharaja of Tehri,he went to Japan to teach Hindu philosophy particularly practical Vedanta and then to the United States to pursue his teachings like Swami Vivekananda before him. An advocate of youth education, he helped institute many scholarships for education of Indian youth abroad. He also advocated women education .He returned to India in 1904 and sometime later withdrew from public life and went to Himalayas. He started writing a book also but the project remained incomplete as his soul left the mortal body on 17th October, 1906 while he was just five days short of completing 33 years.
